If you only have one email address for more than one person in your family or care team there is a way to create multiple profiles with one email address.

Note: Make sure you write down or store the new email address somewhere safe so you remember what email addresses were used.

Add a plus at the end of your email address username

You can add a plus (+) after your username followed by any number or word. For example:

In these examples, all mail will still be delivered to [email protected]

Most major email providers support plus addressing, such as:

  • Gmail

  • Outlook

  • iCloud

  • Yahoo

What is the '+' Workaround?

The '+' workaround is a handy feature supported by many email providers, allowing users to create multiple variations of a single email address by adding a plus sign (+) followed by any text before the @ symbol. This approach is particularly useful when you need to register for different accounts or manage incoming emails more effectively without creating multiple email addresses.

For example, if your email address is [email protected], you can use variations like [email protected], [email protected], or [email protected]. All emails sent to these addresses will still be delivered to [email protected].

Why Use the '+' Workaround?

Flexibility and Organization

The '+' workaround allows you to categorize incoming emails easily. For instance, if you sign up for different services using distinct variations of your email address (e.g., [email protected] for banking services and [email protected] for social media), you can quickly identify the source of the emails and filter them accordingly. In our case, some customers only have one email address but we require a unique email address for each account. This is where this trick comes in handy.

Single Inbox Management

Instead of managing multiple email accounts, the '+' workaround lets you use one inbox for various purposes. This simplifies email management, allowing you to maintain one primary email address while still distinguishing between different types of communications.

Enhanced Privacy and Security

By using different variations of your email address for different registrations, you can monitor how your email address is being used. If you start receiving spam emails to a specific variation (e.g., [email protected]), you can easily identify the source and take appropriate actions, such as unsubscribing or blocking the sender.

How to Use the '+' Workaround

Here’s how you can use the '+' workaround with your existing email account:

  1. Choose Your Base Email: Start with your regular email address, for example, [email protected].

  2. Add the '+' Symbol: Insert a plus sign (+) after your email username, followed by any text you choose. For example, [email protected] or [email protected].

  3. Use the New Email Address for Registrations: You can use these new variations when signing up for different services, websites, or newsletters. All emails sent to these addresses will arrive in your base email inbox.

Examples of the '+' Workaround in Action

Let’s explore some scenarios where the '+' workaround can be especially useful:

Managing Online Accounts

Suppose you use your email address for various online accounts such as shopping, banking, and social media. By using [email protected], [email protected], and [email protected], you can easily filter and manage emails from these different sources within a single inbox.
