The Silvertree Reach can obtain your location from three different connection sources and depending on your daily activity, a different source will be used!
Hierarchy of Connection Sources
Your Silvertree Reach will always prefer the connection source that uses the least amount of battery in this order:
Silvertree App
Wi-Fi
GPS/LTE
If your Silvertree Reach is connected to a more power intensive mode, and it comes in range of connection source that consumes less power, it will automatically switch.
For example, a Silvertree Reach who's reporting it's location by LTE and comes into range with the Silvertree App on their smart phone, the device will automatically connect to the Silvertree App and turn off the GPS/LTE chips.
But, a Silvertree Reach will never disconnect from a low power source for another, unless the first source is no longer available.
Recommended Connection Sources For Different Locations
Where is your device? | What Is the Best Connection Source? | What are the benefits? |
Indoors | Wi-Fi | The Silvertree Reach should have access to the Wi-Fi network whenever possible if Wi-Fi is setup. This will ensure accurate location reports and avoid powering on the GPS/LTE chips unnecessarily (which can drain the battery). |
Outdoors, on a walk | Silvertree App | Overall performance will be best when the smart phone or iPad is nearby. |
Outdoors, on a hike or playing a sport | GPS/LTE | If your device is outdoors and away from their cellphone it will power on it's GPS/LTE chips and provide their remote location. If the location is not accurate see assess the factors that impact wireless signal |
